How will your customer find you, if they don't know about you?

Traditionally, businesses relied on PR to get the word out about their products or services. PR still has its place, but for small business, sometimes it is just not an effective solution. Though you may pay a PR rep to get a magazine or newspaper to write about your business, the article may yield little results in the end. The reason being that, readers only read what they are interested in! So they may flip through the latest issue of Vogue and still not even read the article about your brand. Or what if your potential customers don't even know you exist? If a customer is looking for something, they will probably do a search on the internet. They will type in keywords and find articles about it. How can you get around this problem? By bridging the link between your website and special interest articles by having a business blog. Blogs are the modern newsletter. But unlike a newsletter, blogs are cost-effective, faster and they reach a wider audience because they are search engine-friendly. After all, if you only send out the newsletter to your current customer base, how will new customers find you if they don't even know about you?

Just the facts

What is a blog?

A blog is the abbreviated term for weblog. It is different from a website, because of its journal format; content is added on a daily or weekly basis.

Two reasons that prevent a business from keeping a blog are they don’t know how tot start one,o r they are too busy to keep up with it. How is your service different from a web designer?

A web designer’s main concern is designing a functioning website that is aesthetically appealing to the viewer. They are not concerned with its contents in relation to strategic marketing. A blogger’s main concern is providing quality content to keep its readers coming back.

Why is it important to have a strong internet presence?

The best way for a potential customer to find you, is through the internet. Consumers spend a lot of time online. They crave information, and they want it right away. Your internet presence can make or break your first impression. Customers want to know exactly what they are going to find in your shop before they visit.

What makes you an expert?

I specialise in writing about fashion. I have a university degree in fashion communication and design. I owned a small business for several years, in which I kept a blog to promote it. I saw the benefits that the blog was having on my business. I believe that my expertise and service can help your business attract new customers and keep your regular customers engaged.

How blogging relates to your business

Social media is making an impact on the way we market products and services, but many businesses don’t understand why they should participate or how to adapt it to their business. Traditional advertising is no longer engaging, and is easily overlooked by its target audience. The aim of social media marketing is to engage your customers to establish a lasting relationship. Blogs are the most effective way to do this. Unlike a traditional website, they are constantly engaging, as they are updated on a frequent basis. A static website is not dynamic enough to keep your customers coming back for more, but a blog is.

As consumer habits change, your marketing approach must change with them. They have little time to spend browsing in shops, so they want to know what is available in store before they make the journey. More than ever, boutique retailers must make the most efficient use of their internet presence to attract new customers and compete in the market place.

A blog can provide a venue for the sort of information that your customers want; product information, designer/brand information, special offers, event details, and expert advice. This sort of information will keep your customers interested and coming back to your business.
